Crediting knowledge
We separate the SMW publisher from the original source or author. Giving credit enables verification, recognition and further learning.
An open initiative
Social Meta World began as an initiative by NebekCitoGG to turn scattered GeoGuessr knowledge into a living, useful and verifiable map.
We bring together visual clues, places, sources and players' experiences to make learning to recognise the world clearer and more accessible. The aim is to organise knowledge, credit its sources and help it grow with the community.
Each meta can be reviewed, placed in context and connected to its territory. An isolated observation becomes shared knowledge.
That is why every glowing point in our logo represents each of you.
The image of standing on the shoulders of giants, popularised by Newton and present throughout the history of science since Galileo, describes this project well: we see further because others have already observed, compared and taught.
Plonk It, RMRG, LearnableMeta and thousands of contributions across Discord, YouTube, Reddit and other communities form part of those foundations. So do the questions, corrections and small discoveries of players whose names were not always recorded.

SMW may have founders and caretakers, but the knowledge it brings together does not belong to us. It is a community effort that gives back to the world it came from.
